Auction

On Saturday our ward young men/young women group had an dinner/auction to try to raise money for one of their upcoming activities. JR and I decided that we would contribute his TV to the cause since we don't have room for it and weren't sure what to do with it. It's a pretty nice TV. About 29" and worked fine with a slight discoloration but hardly noticable. When we arrived at the auction we felt a little strange about bringing in the TV because all of the other stuff on auction seemed to be gift baskets or home made jewelry and things of that nature. We didn't want to be the weird couple who out did everyone by bringing a TV. We had to decide if we wanted to show people up or not and decided that we would go ahead and bring it in and from there on out be known as the cool couple in the ward. Oh the dreams we had! The auction started and we realized a few items in that we were way out of our league. When people started bidding $60 for dinner rolls we knew we would not be able to win any of these bids. Our ward I'm pretty sure is made up of Doctors and Lawyers. We do live in a very nice area. Anyways, we had to cut out early to get to a wedding reception but wanted to see what our TV would go for so sat through probably about 20 items that all got fairly high bids. Then came our TV. Our dreams were shot when not a single bid was made on our TV. We went from being the coolest couple in the ward to being the lamest couple who brought the TV that no one wanted. I guess it makes sense since most of these people probably have huge plasma's in every room. We thought maybe a teenager or kid would want it for their rooms at lease but...nothing. We slunk out of that auction shamed that night. We are not sure what ended up happening to our TV. We may never know. Or maybe we will pass it out by the dumpster when we go to church on Sunday. So sad!
